How to read it
Reading the Apulian
final e
Around Bari the unstressed final «e» is barely heard, but it is always written: càse, house. Further south the final vowels come back clearer.
ò, ó
The grave accent marks an open vowel, the acute a closed one: uagnòne, boy, has an open «ò».
nd → nn
Where Italian has «nd», here there is «nn»: quanne, when.
nt → nd
After «n» the t becomes d: dìnde, tooth.
gli → gghi
The Italian «gli» sound becomes «gghi»: figghie, son.
